Upcycling at It's finest

The act of taking something no longer in use and giving it a second life and new function.

It all starts with a glass of wine and an empty wine bottle that has served it's purpose.

Some wine bottles are selected for it's weight, size, color and design. They are elegant vessels and combined with their labels give wine a unique look. Here at Secondhand Glass Candle Company we combine a wine bottle's unique characteristics and handcraft it into another favorite of our generation, the candle.

Each bottle is picked up from wineries around North Georgia and brought back to our shop. We then cut each bottle at a determined angle that works for the bottle's size and shape. We then polish the cut perfectly flat and smooth and bevel the edge with our special glass lapping machine. There is no speeding up this process, each bottle is carefully looked at for quality of the finish.

The finished vessel is then moved to the candle making process. We use the highest quality soy wax and the cleanest scents on the market. All candles are mixed and poured in small batches at the perfect temperature to preserve the quality and to ensure each candle has a perfect finish to the end user.

Some bottles keep their labels and get sold back to the wineries as the perfect memento or gift of their experience there.

The other bottles go through another process of removing the labels. They are then relabeled with original artwork and photography. The labels are made from the same type of paper, foil, and varnish that most wine bottles have to preserve the feel and look. The end result is one of the most bespoke candles on the market. A lot of time and effort goes into each one of our candles. We hope you display and cherish this candle as much as we did making it.
